# Epic Explanations for Chrome

Unzip the download. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select this folder. Pin the E icon. Refresh existing X and YouTube tabs after installation or updates.

- Toolbar: clicking the extension icon immediately bookmarks the active webpage; the popup confirms progress.
- X: the E icon beside Bookmark (Share in compact layouts) bookmarks that specific post.
- YouTube: Save explanation appears beside Share on a watch page. Shorts have an E icon in the action bar.
- Open bookmarks from the popup to see saved pages in My studio → Bookmarks.

The extension uses your existing Epic Explanations session. Sign in with ChatGPT when prompted. It opens a temporary connection tab only if needed; an extension-created tab still on its connection page closes after completion. You do not need to keep a Site tab open. No password, cookie value or permanent authentication token is read or stored.

Unconfirmed saves are kept locally through browser restarts. Open Pending saves in the popup (or the extension's Options page) to retry paused items or discard them. Retries reuse their original receipt, preserve your edited notes/tags/title, and do not re-create a bookmark you removed after a completed save. A fresh click can save it again. Saves pinned to a previous account pause if your Site account changes.

Saved URLs and titles are private. No media is downloaded, no browsing history is collected, and no public catalog entry or internet-discovery job is created. X/YouTube scripts only save after a trusted button click. Ordinary pages are accessed only when you click the toolbar icon. Unsupported Chrome/settings/local-network pages are not saved.

Permissions: activeTab reads the chosen tab URL/title; storage keeps pending and recent saves locally with content-script access disabled; alarms resumes pending saves; the Epic Explanations host permission permits the fixed save endpoint; X and YouTube content-script matches provide their bookmark buttons. No cookies, history, broad all-sites, remote code, or external messaging permission is requested.

This is an unpacked extension, not a Chrome Web Store listing. YouTube/X layouts and language can change; the toolbar save remains a fallback. Use the downloaded folder in a stable location because Chrome loads it from there. Install updates into the same folder and use Reload on chrome://extensions; the manifest key keeps the extension identity stable.
